A fused fiber optic WDM coupler (also called wavelength selective coupler, dichroic coupler, or wavelength combiner/splitter) obtains light from two inputs with different wavelengths (λ1 & λ2) and feeds it into the same output fiber. When used in the reverse direction, the fiber optic WDM coupler is capable of separating the two wavelengths. This implies that all the input power at λ1 emerges at one output port and all the input power at λ2 emerges at the second output port.
