The in-line fiber optic polarizer with high output polarization extinction ratio (460nm 630nm 780nm 850nm 980nm 1064nm 1310nm 1550nm 2000nm) is a fiber polarization device that enables the transmission of one particular state of polarization (SOP) and suppresses the transmission of the orthogonal state. It is therefore commonly used to fix a polarization state in an optical system or to analyze the SOP of an optical wave. A fiber optical polarizer is one of the fundamental components in many fiber systems that are highly dependent on the polarization of the light guided by the optical fiber. Lfiber’s in-line fiber optical linear polarizers feature low loss, ultra high output extinction ratio (ER), high stability and reliability.  Related Products

The Basics of In-line Fiber Optic Polarizer (High Output Polarization Extinction Ratio Fiber Optical Polarizer 460 / 630 / 780 / 850 / 980 / 1064 / 1310 / 1550 / 2000 nm)

An in-line fiber optical polarizer usually converts unpolarized or mixed-polarization light into light with a single polarization state or transforms light between polarization states. There are two types of polarizers: absorptive polarizers and beamsplitting polarizers. An absorptive polarizer absorbs light with the unwanted polarization state and transmits light polarized along its transmission axis. A beamsplitting polarizer splits the incident beam into two beams having orthogonal polarization states; If by some method one of the beams is eliminated, the transmitted beam will be linearly polarized.

The polarizer is said to be linear, circular, or elliptical if the passed SOP is linearly, circularly, or elliptically polarized.

Since linear polarizers are the most common type, the word “linear” is usually omitted. An in-line linear polarizer produces linearly polarized light using unpolarized light. The transmittance of an ideal polarizer for unpolarized light is 50%. The transmittance of a real polarizer is < 50% for unpolarized light.

High ER In-line Fiber Optical Polarizers and Analyzers (2000 1550 1310 1064 980 850 780 630 460 nm High Output Polarization Extinction Ratio)

A linear polarizer is a polarizing device which when placed in an incident unpolarized beam produces a beam of light whose electric vector is vibrating primarily in one plane, with only a small component vibrating in the plane perpendicular to it.

Polarizers and analyzers are essentially the same components used in different roles. A polarizer converts an unpolarized light into, usually, a linearly polarized one, while an analyzer is a polarizer that is used to identify the orientation of an already linearly polarized light.

Applications of the Inline Fiber Optic Polarizer (460 630 780 850 980 1064 1310 1550 2000 nm High Extinction Ratio ER)

Many fiber optic applications require a well-defined polarization state. Conventional optical sources (e.g., incandescent bulbs, arc lamps, the sun) produce light having a polarization state that changes randomly with time (unpolarized light). Some lasers emit polarized light.

Polarizers are necessary for polarization-sensitive devices, such as many electro-optic modulators, and in polarization-sensitive applications such as fiber gyroscopes, all-fiber optical interferometers, imaging instrumentation for solar physics and astrophysics, synchrotron radiation, lasers, solid state physics, atomic and molecular physics, particle-matter interaction, magnetic and chiral material analysis, circular dichroism spectroscopy, spin-polarized photoelectron spectroscopy, magnetic Compton scattering, etc.
