Holmium laser fiber converter (high power optical fiber converter) is a passive fused fiber optical component that delivers high-power laser energy at approximately 2.1 μm (2100 nm) wavelength from a holmium laser fiber to a smaller-core fiber with an extremely low loss. The fiber core diameters are available in 200, 272 (273, 275), 365, and 550 microns (µm / um). A larger-core input fiber enables higher power coupling for holmium laser applications. At the same time, the smaller-core output fiber has better bending characteristics and flexibility, which makes it beneficial for clinical procedures. The Function of the Holmium Laser Fiber (High Power Optical Fiber Converter)

The holmium-based lasers and holmium laser fibers are medical/surgical fibers, and they are best known for their urological applications in the treatment of stones (kidney stone removal), BPH, tumors and strictures. 

The Holmium:YAG laser was initially introduced into urology as a tool for stone fragmentation throughout the urinary tract. The holmium-based laser is operating at a wavelength of approximately 2.1 μm (2100 nm). The holmium laser energy is transmitted via flexible silica fiber with a diameter typically ranging from 200 to 550 micron. Energy passes through the holmium laser fiber to the stone. The laser beam hits the stone, causing the stone to weaken, fracture, and fragment.
